Nicholson, Leon Hurst
22.02.1928 – 20.04.2020
Leon Nicholson was a long standing member of the South African National Society and for many years a member of the Committee until his increasing deafness forced him to resign from the Committee.
Leon lived a remarkably long, interesting and active life right to the end. He was an example to us all in how to face life with courage and seldom complain.
Rare were the occasions that Leon did not attend a meeting and an absence to attend always led to enquiries of “Where is Leon?” He was also an active supporter of tours and other events held by SANS. Right to the end Leon drove himself to all meetings and functions.
His interesting family background, schooling, career and vast general knowledge added to many a talk or event at SANS.
Leon will be fondly remembered for his generosity. He would frequently throughout the year bring fruits from his garden to be shared amongst fellow members.
Leon will be sincerely missed by all members of SANS. The South African National Society extends our deepest sympathy to Mark, Paul, Bruce, Penny and Gareth and all their families.
I would like to add my personal tribute to a great, but unassuming man, who I regarded as a friend.
Robert King
President (SANS)
