The March meeting was the talk on the Addington Children’s Hospital by member Hugh Bland who has recently published a book on this iconic Hospital opened in 1931 and closed under controversial circumstances in 1984.

The opening of the Hospital was motivated by Mary Siedle and funded in a joint venture by, The City, The Province and Public Funds.

The Hospital was well designed by SA Chief Architect John Cleland , who encouraged local artists like Mary Stainbank, Wilgeford Van-Hall, Nils Anderson and others to provide the artwork and sculptures to brighten up the hospital for the children.

The photographic relics of this art, the derelict state  of the structure and details of the artists and hospital’s heroes formed part of this talk on the hospital, that is in the process of being restored.
