Our speaker will be Ken’s long term friend and professional colleague, Pam MacFadden. The title
of her talk will be “Creating the Archives at Talana Museum” and she will make particular
reference to Ken’s papers and those of other military historians sent to Talana for safe keeping.
Our South African National Society has contributed to the costs of this important labour of love.
Pam McFadden, a graduate of the University of Natal and University of South Africa,
has done considerable field research into the military conflicts fought in KwaZulu-Natal and has
regularly conducted tours around these sites for the past 40 years.
She has had 5 books published on the battles of the area.
In conjunction with Pat Rundgren they have published books on “Dundee Men at War”
(Dundee in the First world War), republished the Delville Wood memorial book, the “Bailey
Diary” and a comprehensive account “Reminiscences by the Men who were there” of men
who fought in the battle of Talana.

As Curator of the Talana Museum since 1983 she has been responsible for the development of the museum and
battlefield which is acknowledged as being one of the finest in South Africa.
